“You know why today is the best day of the year?”

logo

If I haven’t made it obvious, I will talk to practically anyone. Sure, I may have an off day or two, but majority of the time, I make it a point to talk to strangers. I love people and the stories behind them. Where with these damn cell phone contraptions these days, this world has become inundated with a rude, callous, and ignorant public. It’s a shame really. So, I’m at the AutoWash in North Olmsted yesterday afternoon, since the T-baby needed a SERIOUS vacuum and wheel wash, and this gentlemen strikes up a conversation with me about hating the bass turned up in youngsters’ cars. We chat, albeit brief and short, then he asks me if I know why today was the best day of the year. I’m thinking, last day of summer/first day of fall, first car wash… hell, I give up. It’s his birthday. We get into conversations about birthday dinners and cakes and kids coming to visit (and I have my mom’s birthday dinner this weekend so I’m relating my own events to the conversation). What a pleasant, sunny niche of the afternoon with a good person. Happy 64th Birthday, Thunderbird driver! Made my day having someone friendly and full of glee on a Thursday afternoon.

And a clean car called for a new CD: BASEMENT JAXX! I own all their albums — yet even though everything else I download from iTunes now — this was a full CD “have-to-purchase.” (Damn, and I just realized I forgot I wanted the new Justin Timberlake release). So far, loving it! I already had “Hey U” as my profile song on MySpace, so went straight to that song for a good 12 repeats. Their CD has that Jaxx-quality to it, but is very different than albums in the past. It’s almost more of a world music album which I LOVE. Will respond more about it after I’ve listened to every song on the album. I need a good drive to the east side now.
UPDATE: Couple thousand times of listening to the same song, I have progressed into an obsession for “Take Me Back to Your House.” Banjo house, seriously? Who would have thought it would be so fucking cool? Next stop, “Run 4 Cover.”

Continuing with getting absolutely nothing accomplished on a Thursday, I take in a good round of grocery shopping — which as I’ve stated MANY many times, I HATE! And I ended up at Giant Evil which makes the experience justly more excruciating. Anyways, I wanted to make stuffed peppers for dinner this weekend and hence therefore, requires a trip to the store. And mmmmm stuffed peppers… ONLY the way mom used to make. Isn’t it funny when you get this huge nostalgic craving for comfort food of home? Maybe this Christmas, I will attempt to recreate Granny’s stuffed cabbage… eh, maybe my place is too small and confined for that sort of reekness.

Then, of course, it’s school time — and I LOVE Thursdays because it’s group project day and goes without saying, that I enjoy socializing. We were split into separate groups and had a sticker applied to our foreheads (and we didn’t know what ours said) and we had to treat our classmates as represented by their “label” while we continued to do our group work. The lesson is all about interpreting conclusions we base on labels or stereotypes and the difficulty in changing our perceptions once we’ve established that “first impression.” I seriously really love this fucking class. Hope all my classes at CSU continue to be so enjoyable — not as awful as that Comm Theory class I took at Notre Dame College *shudder* Oh, so everyone keeps telling me “Why does everything have to be a joke with you?” and “Stop laughing at everything!” and “Do you need a microphone to tell that story to everyone?” I guessed correctly that I was a comedian. I love one description that another student had was “insignificant.” Hilarious.

With complete intentions of rushing my ass home to catch MAYBE the last 20 minutes of Gray’s Anatomy, I get the text: Want to go to the End of Summer Luau at Liquid tonight?
Uh, I’m downtown already… SURE! It felt like a Saturday. Last night was so much fun. Almost felt as if it were industry night after running into so many faces I haven’t seen in ages. Carlos Jones stiiired up the crowd — uh, again so much fun. Stalked by Da Paparazzo (will check the site later for pictures of the new hair!). Made some new friends with newbies to Cleveland which I’m sure, I’ll end up as some sort of Social Director upon subsequent meetups. Next on the menu, Dive Bar where I’m sure I felt up HSS’s chest more often than necessary. (Secret congrats to the sickenly-cute couple on the engagement!!) Followed some little 22-year-old squirt to Spy Bar (again, I need higher standards than just “facial hair — ooh!”). Pull one of those “Oh, look, I see one of my friends! Be right back!” and dart out the front doors to the safety of Tequila Ranch. Yeah, so I’m giving the Ranch another chance — at least it’s not Bar Flyy where it takes you the entire 4 hours of total drinking time to attempt to get one drink. And for whatever reason, I was drooling all over the ASShat I met the other night at the Vodka Tasting Party.

The night ended peacefully at Panini’s. Shut it. I know. Some random sat next to us and we began pulling french fries off his sandwich and eating them. I think he eventually left his plate at the table and walked out. I see a guy I was eye-balling at Liquid earlier in the evening, he remembers me, he offers up his business card (he’s in radio) and I give him my number… etched with my fingernail on the top of his take-out box.

I’m bringing Classy Back.
