When living alone is lonely

Posted by Mel on September 13th, 2008. Filed under: Ahh, fuck....

I don’t like sitting at my dining room table. I have probably eaten there a total of five times since I moved in nearly three years ago.

I usually distract myself during feeding times either on the floor at the coffee table or in front of my computer. Or “bachelor style” standing at the counter. Shit, I’d even rather get crumbs in bed than look at three empty chairs.

I attempted to eat an awesome cheese-and-onion omelet that i made all by myself this morning, and nearly lost my appetite with the overwhelmimg emotion of lonliness.

Didn’t help with iTunes shuffle playing all classic breakup/makeup songs.

Sigh, mama said there’d be days like this. Or else I need to start drinking with breakfast.

Aww man, that’s sad. I can empathize, though. Before I accidentally got my currently too-short sofa, which was subsequently bequeathed to the dog, I always had a hard time sleeping in my own bed and preferred the couch.

The very worst thing for me (in terms of feeling suddenly and horribly lonely): walking from the arrival gate to the baggage claim after a medium or long road trip and remembering that I’m not being picked up by anyone, I don’t have anyone to call as soon as the pilot says we can turn off our phones, etc. That always puts me in a dark funk.

So, sorry to hear about your sad breakfast. Stick to the coffee table.

Anytime Mark is out of town I usually eat my dinner in our office in front of the computer. It makes me feel connected to other people while I eat. I have my little TV window playing in the corner and then I either post to my blog or peruse others, commenting along the way. It does get lonely around here when he’s out of town, so I rely on things like the computer and TV to keep me company. Oh and my cats. :-) (Wow, that sounded sad… haha)

TV trays and the first season of Arrested Development on DVD mean I am never lonely. You should give it a try.

A cat or dog would be a loyal companion and definitely help you feel a little less lonely :)

    Unless you’re allergic that is. . .
