What I did this weekend that was not related to basketball…

A beautiful Saturday morning began with a solitary five-mile walk through the Rocky River Metroparks. (I nixed the beach idea). It was a good opportunity to meditate, de-stress and contemplate the weekend’s goings-on… which oddly enough, was nothing. After an immersed veg on the couch for reasons unknown, I peeled myself away to enjoy the fruits of a warm summer night at one of the many outdoor patio establishments in the heart of Lakewood. Strike one: believing that Around the Corner had somehow developed into a grown-up place to drink. Strike two: hoping the crowds would stay thin at Johnny Malloy’s for at least the time allotted to polish a ten-spot of buffalo hot wings and the eating frenzy would also not be interrupted without the showcase of mammaries enhanced by extreme v-neck dresses and chaperoned by meathead 20-year old husbands. WTF, seriously. What happened to flip-flops and t-shirts in Lakewood? Strike three: leftover pizza AFTER I had polished off said wings at home, in bed by midnight. Sad.

My little sister and I hung out for majority of the day Sunday with her first wedding dress fitting in River, lunch at Max’s deli (how can I fail to mention the GIGANTIC corned beef sandwich with swiss and the side order of a slice of M&M’s cheesecake??), then Crocker Park for the art walk and a successful jeans purchase at Indigo Nation — YES! I finally have my Paige denim! And in complete random-Mel fashion, the chick next door to my dressing room was my old roommate’s ex-girlfriend. First random: she doesn’t live in the Cleveland-area, let alone the state of Ohio or remotely close to the midwest. And she recognizes me. I realize shortly afterward  (when she begins to dish the “break up” story, otherwise known as the “last time I ever spoke to him”), she didn’t realize the ol’ roommate and I dated a few years after I had moved out. (Obviously, it didn’t pan out to anything and their relationship ending had nothing to do with my presence, as I was head/heart/vagina-infatuated with “L” back then).

Reading:  I just ordered five books from Amazon.com. I created a new “book nook” in my condo with my papasan near the window with eighteen throw pillows (give-or-take). It was incredibly relaxing reading after work yesterday. Oh, almost done with the Bellamy “women murderesses” book. ALMOST. (I realized I was three issues behind on my Better Homes & Garden mag). Loved, loved the story of reluctant Perry-native (and bisexual in the 1920s??!!) Velma West who beat her husband to death with a claw-hammer.

iPJHiser-ing: “Foundations” by Kate Nash, “Careful What You Wish For” by Jonatha Brooke, “Flat Beat” by Mr. Oizo, “Tracking Treasure Down” by Motorcycle.
