Unfortunately, I did lose a friend and co-worker to skin cancer a few years ago. Within six months of being diagnosed, she was dead — in her young 20s too. It is pitiful it took me this long to realize I NEEDED to have a skin screening (hello, former tanorexic), especially having so many freckles and “beauty marks.”
A few people in blogs have written about the Skin Cancer Takes Friends organization, so I decided to check it out and make a free appointment with a participating dermatologist at the Cleveland Clinic. I had that appointment Thursday. My doctor was very nice (and young), and I am forever thankful she participated in this awareness to address skin cancer issues.
Thankfully, a quick and painless screening (it seriously took me longer to find a parking spot) proved I had nothing to worry about (but I did make a cosmetic appointment for the fall to have some ugly ones removed anyway). Once a year, people. Get a screening. And stop tanning.

Tanning beds are terrible. I used to do it and believe I would be a healthier person if I hadn’t. Now I wear tanning lotion constantly. Good luck to you on Blogging Idol!
