My brain is a little mush today. Good mush, I suppose. Not the gross mush you (definitely not me) eat for breakfast, but the mush that envelops the brain during periods of extreme happiness, that it pretty much feels stupid. Mush. Wow, I seriously need to work on my intimate conversation skills.

I was able to spend some time with my sister Friday night before she moves this week, which makes me happy. She was at my mom’s first and brought over some of Mom’s homemade chili and lemon-sugar cookies (yes, we eat chili in summer). Both my sister and I suffered through a strange bout of insomnia, so about 1 a.m., we walked over to Giant Eagle for hot chocolate (I know, it’s summer, but we couldn’t find Yoo-Hoo!) and sharp cheddar cheese for me. I had a few slices with crackers when we returned home, then I went straight to sleep. Odd, right? But cheese makes me happy.

In the morning, from a recommendation of my friend KT, took my sister to Borderline Cafe in Lakewood for a little southwestern-style breakfast. The southwestern omelet was fantastic! My sister opted for french toast. The restaurant is located near the West End on Detroit. Very cute and small — you will wait a bit for your food, but the service is excellent and attentive. There is an entire front page of all southwestern breakfast options and another few pages of traditional stuff. Next time, I will go for the breakfast quesadilla. Eggs, cheese & salsa all together on one plate definitely makes me happy!

My friend and her man got hitched out in Novelty at the EOUV club. The outdoor ceremony was beautiful and it was such a sunny summer day. My heels had a nice time sinking into the grass. For dinner (the best wedding meal EVER!), we noshed on European family style food — there is never a stuffed cabbage I didn’t like — and homemade wines and a plateful of tasty desserts (yea! apricot klotchkies for me!). We danced the Hokey-Pokey, the Chicken Dance and Huey Lewis. I did not catch the bouquet, but I always find it hilarious when women dive for it, as if their only existence is to be married. Yeah, it’s nice, sure… but I don’t think broken toes and ripped dresses are worthy of the superstition (and no, that’s not how I ripped my dress!!). Maria and I just turned our bodies and opened up a space for the flowers to float right past us. I caught a bouquet once… about 12 years ago. Guess what? Still not married. And that is why I run out for cigarette breaks every time a slow song started. I also should tell you that I had a 20-year-old cousin of the bride hit on me (at least, it seemed like it to my table mates). The irony is that he graduated from the same school as my little brother… and they’re in a BAND TOGETHER. How freakin’ small is that world? I am so happy for my good friend finding an amazing man!

After doing Cherry Bombs with the mother-of-the-bride, it was time to depart back West of Cleveland. Seeing it was still before midnight on a Saturday, “the guy” and I went for drinks at Harbor Inn (seriously, Narm, we’re stalking you). The owner immediately recognized me from last week (awesome), and I (finally) bowled a good game of that Skee-bowl thing. The guys’ friends turned the Harbor into a late-night country sing-a-long, which was hilarious. And then I dabbled a bit into that whole “PDA” stuff. I was a happy drunk in my six-inch heels. (I felt slightly overdressed for the Harbor).

Then I had the perfect Sunday: A comfy blanket on a comfy couch, “the nook” and pizza. All things that make me very, very happy.

Update: Then I get this in my e-mail: There are two kinds of happiness. There is that of the uncommitted life of sensual pleasures, and there is that of the committed life, one of going forth to a new consciousness. Of these, the happiness of going forth is greater. - Anguttara Nikaya

Ooh, the nook? That’s some of the best stuff EVER. Even better under a comfy blanket. AND pizza? Wow, Sundays don’t get any better than that. Good for you.

Awesome. I caught the boquet once. Then the guy I was dating at the time got all funny. We ended up breaking up about a month later. It was obscene. LOL.

I’m glad to hear you had such a wonderful weekend!

It’s funny to hear what other’s insomnia cures are. When I’ve had bad runs of it, a slice of white bread and cup of cold milk seemed to do the trick.
