I would normally do a blah-blah-blah rundown of my weekend wrap-up, but THIS particular Saturday was something to talk about. I’ll begin from the end of the debauchery and work my way back up to my innocence (ie: sobriety). I feel a Momento movie-like moment…
Dianna’s — circa 3am, drunk dialing everyone in my phone… okay, completely-and-utterly RANDOM people in my phone… particularly and completely and utterly random people in all states but Ohio with also a return text to the sender of my first drunk email (that I wasn’t the sender). I’m so glad I deleted the exes out.
Tequila Ranch — where a pen exploded in my hands while signing out my tab, with only half-laughing apologies by the bartender and a manager that “disappeared” en route to obtain a gift certificate — as reward for what? The ink stains that STILL will not wash off my hands Monday morning — someone is SOOO lucky it did not get on my vintage fur! I’m not one of those PIA customers, but seriously(!), offer me a freakin bar rag to wipe my hands off while I’m sitting there waiting for my “MAJOR AWARD” (read: free drinks, which I get anyways…).
Dive Bar — I was the one to grab your ass. Blind Pig — We got some awesome photos of the birthday girl dancing on-stage with the band. Wooooo! 21!!!
And without further ado, the crowing jewel of my evening : The Velvet Tango Room. I have had the honest intention of visiting VTR since I first read of the place almost three YEARS ago — I finally made it, and what better occasion than to celebrate my friend’s sister’s 21st birthday with classy style. I should have mapped out the bars of Ohio City earlier in my creative drinking stage. My expectations were certainly exceeded. I really have to thank Paulius, Tatiana and Patrick for taking exceptional care of us! The best part of the Room, is looking around, EVERYONE was treated with such friendliness and excitement. It’s so cozy and trendy, not-too-prententious while reamaining oh-so-classy.
Our private couch area was set up with champagne and a chocolate plate (ooh, was that orange chocolate!) on arrival. (Seriously excuse our delay — poor girls driving in from Toledo, and Cleveland decides to go all winter-storm-warning on us). Immediately after entry, our coats were taken (not your run-of-mill coat check!) and while toasting our first glass of bubbly, all the ladies were presented with a long-stemmed white rose.
After a couple glasses each of champagne, we decide to explore the drink menu. I seriously wanted to try every concoction on the menu! I ordered a whisky sour — which, great man he is, Paulius picked up on my love of the Jack Daniels. I think sours-section pleased most our group, as all of us ordered either the whiskey or amaretto sour (also, heavenly-sweet-goodness!). These are certainly sippin’ drinks… and made just as they should be. Everyone took the time to explain their process and ingredients involved in the preparation of the drinks (which was shocking to hear the inclusion of egg whites in a martini glass — but it was perfectly done!). CERTAINLY the place to impress upon someone. Would love to return to see on a more casual evening the visitor scenery.
On our exit, we all received a “to-go” cup of chicken consomme.
On this particularly cold night in Cleveland, it was perfect.
