I’ve been spending a LOT of time writing and in Development Land over that last few weeks. I’ve created a couple new blogs (stay tuned, Impatients!), made some super-awesome new promotional contacts & have steadily tried to recreate my “brand,” if you will (ie: my part-time freelance career). And, oh, the Reader! (Thank you!).
Aside from my typical “Where is this Blog Going?” broken recording in my head, I am likewise stuck in the small business world of printing new business cards. The company that my other office uses is way too expensive (and unreliable). I have located a few favorite (read: cheap & green) printing companies online that seem to do a heckuva lot better than Kinko’s and what-not, but I would really like to use a small, local company for situations such as these. Unfortunately, that has not been so easy — I haven’t received a lot of favorable feedback (read: non- expensive!). OK, I’m cheap, and I’m just starting out, so this is the first in a long line of “watch your money” situations. Moving on…
My other problem: I am having issues creating a title for myself much more creative than “freelancer.” (Yuck). Ideas? I have a few — but in this world of “corporate bull,” is it really appropriate if I stick to the This-is-Who-I-Am! mantra I have been feeding my puny brain. I’m so conflicted — me or “professional.” (Puke). I mean, this blogging and social media second life is a lot more obsessive than “hobbyist” now.
Aren’t start-ups fun?

Well Mel, first and foremost I really enjoy reading your blog! Secondly, I’m in the same boat. I’m a graphic designer and have been freelancing for a bit now, but some words I’ve come acrossed that strike my fancy are:
for freelancer…
advisor, authority, counsel, expert, freelancer, guide, master, maven, mentor, pro, specialist, veteran
for correspondent…
contributor, epistler, epistolarian, freelancer, gazetteer, journalist, letter writer, pen pal, reporter, stringer, writer
for writer…
author, biographer, columnist, contributor, correspondent, critic, dramatist, editor, essayist, freelancer, ghostwriter, journalist, newspaper person, novelist, person of letters, poet, reporter, screenwriter, scribbler, scribe, scripter, stenographer, stringer, wordsmith
Maybe a play on one of these words would work? Hopefully one or some of these will get the wheels spinning the steam going!

I’m an artist, but I felt kinda restricted by it, so I go with “Creator”. I don’t have one type of medium, I create things that are graphic and materialistic, so I figured it suited me. You’ll figure it out:)
