On becoming a true Clevelander

logo

I am a turkey, Swiss, mushroom & honey-dijon wrap full of emotions today (yum, lunch).

And I would like a bowl full of that Lucky’s Cafe applesauce, please. Anyone?

While this morning was a somewhat sad watching AB pack the rest of his “things” from my condo in River, I was full of glee that we will FINALLY be in just. one. place. after five months of transporting overnight bags, and forgetting work socks, and leaving hair dryers, and DAMMIT! WHERE are those freakin’ shoes? Kind of like finding tuna fish in a sandwich that should be horseradish. Ew.

And that place is Downtown Cleveland.

Within a year of purchasing my condo in the ‘burbs, I knew I didn’t want to be there. And well, it’s still mine and still there. Three-and-a-half years of home ownership in a place worth about half what I paid for it. *sigh* I still have to find an option that rids me of that responsibility (ie: sell — which seems improbable; rent – which seems annoying; or giving it to the bank – which seems ruinous).

Meanwhile, AB & I decided to shack up — like, two weeks earlier than we originally (or drunkly) planned. I am completely OK with all of it (save for spending $165 on parking per month). I’m also stressed about what to pack in a short amount of time and what to temporarily leave staged (until said condo has made its decision). And that I’ll be leaving it (mostly) unattended with a (still) leaking pipe in the wall of the bathroom, which the condo association is directly responsible and is failing MISERABLY to repair. Think moldy bread.

But it’s a happy, happy day to be in the middle of the city that I love, where life seems to be revitalized and “happening.” More walking and morning runs discovering the city. More involvement in city activities and block parties. More happy hour dinners at Greenhouse Tavern (for certainly!). Less road rage (*crossing fingers* as my commute will be cut in half and no more dumbasses driving 40mph in the passing lane, except I still have the Cleveland Clinic passers-by who believe the Carnegie hospital is like a school zone). And um, across the street from Presto’s. Jealously ensues on my end, as he has been experiencing downtown living for about five years, and well, I’m more than a little giddy about the Big Move. Furthermore, knowing that both of us want to settle eventually in Ohio City or Tremont in the Spring.

And, well, after more than a decade of floating between suburbs of Northeast, Southeast, Southwest, almost East and further West. and even that three-month (*gasp*) sublet in Parma, I will take residence in the actual City of CLEVELAND. And with AB.

And this is my kind of Penis Tuesday. Hold the mayo. I’m on a diet.

Just do the all-American thing and walk away from the condo. Why keep paying a mortgage on a property that is hopeless anyway?
