Joe G of The World According to Joe played along for this week’s special feature. You know, that National Singles Week, if you’re just tuning in. Joe & I know one another by swapping food and restaurant recommendations over twitter. I’m sure he’s laughed at me on more than one occasion with my ridiculous tweets. Lame, right? Hey, you can’t always look this good, and be a complete computer dork! I’m getting in my time while I can.
And without further ado, a new member to our Single Society, Joe G…
What’s your demographic? That’s a really polite way of asking your age… brackets are acceptable.
26
In what city do you live?
Lyndhurst
What’s the single life like in that place?
Leaves much to be desired, the suburbs don’t tend to be all that great for us singlites.
How did you end up in the ‘burbs… single?
I grew up in the burbs and stuck with what I knew after college. I’m ready to explore some unknown now though
I know you have asked me about downtown living — which is a fine place to reside, but do you believe in this goofy East Side vs. West Side rivalry? Really though, how many times have you crossed the river in the last six months?
I believe it exists and used to agree, until I did some exploring. I love food and there is great stuff on the west side.
Backtrack for a second. How do you DEFINE “single” (or being single)? What are your perceptions on the gray area between being only either single or married? And have you always been classified as “single”?
I think there is single, not single, and married. You can use whatever term of the week you’d like for the not single part, but I believe everyone has to fall into one of those three categories.
Being that your status recently returned to single, is there something you have explicitly learned from your most recent relationship — be that either positive or negative?
Take your time in a relationship there is no hurry make sure it “works” before you get too far along
Have a favorite happy hour spot for single persons just like you?
I can’t say I have one favorite Happy Hour spot since I enjoy nothing more than checking out new places. So maybe my favorite is always the next one I go to check out.
I know on twitter, I’ve recommended a few new places to eat. Give me a Top 5 for the next “new” place on your list…
New places I haven’t tried? Hmmm I’ll have to give this one some thought.
Joe, I will hold you to that! What is your favorite one-man-only activity?
My two one-man-only activities tend to be working out at home after work or relaxing with some video games. I think that my generation shouldn’t be stereotyped that if you play video games as an adult you are X, Y or Z. I’m not your stereotypical video game player so don’t label me as such.
I’m a fan of “video games” (mostly puzzles and board games, but I’ll play along) — I play Word Puzzle on my iPhone until I fall asleep… I am equally lame with my nightly viewings of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Be that as it may, what’s your game of the moment? Would you be interested in another single person who is also a gamer. You know, we all need a little down time.
I love football so NCAA and madden are my games of choice ps3 is the system of choice I
would like someone that doesn’t mind them but they don’t need to be a gamer.
Have you learned anything by reading books, articles, etc. about relationships and/or dating? Did you learn ANYTHING — even if that anything was something completely ridiculous?
I’ve read online articles more so than any books, I tend to believe the advice in a lot of those columns is if you live in the perfect world full of cookie cutter people. I don’t seem to live in that world so the advice doesn’t seem relevant.
Tell me the most AWESOME aspect of being single. There are many. Choose one.
This one is real easy, scheduling. Whether its taking a weekend trip, having a poker night with the guys, going to a Browns game on Sunday, doing something spontaneous with a group of friends, as long as I’m on board that’s all that matters, don’t need to check schedules, plan ahead, or worry about some disagreement about the desire for the plans.
What do you NOT like about being single? Yeah, there are several of those too. Pick one, please.
The advantage of not being single is having someone to spend your free time with. You always have a partner to go out to eat, grab a drink, run to the store, enjoy the weather, attend a sporting event or concert. Basically someone to be reliable when no one else is.
Do you write about your dating and relationship experiences? If you don’t write, do you have a favorite single person’s blog you enjoy? (Aside from mine, of course).
I do not blog about my experiences to this point, I suppose if I had a crazy date or something like that I might share the story, but generally if I’m in a relationship most of what goes on stays close to the vest.
Have a favorite single-something story to share?
Don’t really have one to share off the top of my head.
Most importantly, how do you intend to celebrate YOURSELF as part of National Singles Week?
Eat, Drink and be Merry.
