National Singles Week #4!

Posted by Mel on October 1st, 2009. Filed under: Say hello to my Little Friends.

Suzanne from Life on Mars (subconsciously subtitled “Slightly Bitter in Cleveland”) frequently posts her current loves: new shoes, a certain local chef, interior design inspiration or even a new bacon product on the market. She answers my questions in a way that she expresses so well — emotionally, through beautiful & insatiable images. And bacon.

What’s your demographic? That’s a really polite way of asking your age… brackets are acceptable.
I am 32 (33 in a couple weeks).

In what city do you live?
I live in Cleveland (Lakewood to be exact).
cleveland

What’s the single life like in that place?
Sometimes I feel it’s a little bit like…
desert

but I think it’s all about your attitude. For a long time I thought Cleveland was too small and that everyone knows everyone (especially everyone’s business). And when every guy you seem to meet knows someone else who has seen you naked, well that isn’t very fun. But I have come to accept Cleveland and it’s size and it just makes me tone down the crazy a bit. (Every woman has some crazy)

If you could replant yourself as a single in any other city, where would you go & why?
Austin.

I love pretty much everything about that city other than the oppressive heat at the end of summer. It’s a great college town but with lots of tech nerds, lots of cool restaurants, live music, great bars, and the Austin City Limits music festival. And it doesn’t hurt that I have family there.

Backtrack for a second. How do you DEFINE “single” (or being single)? What are your perceptions on the gray area between being only either single or married? And have you always been classified as “single”?
I define single as not dating anyone exclusively. You had to have had the talk and you can’t be fucking other people

Have a favorite happy hour spot for single persons just like you?
I don’t think of my favorite happy hour spot in terms of being great spots for singles exclusively. My favorite happy hour spot is wherever I am drinking and having some fun. That being said, are just a few places you may find me:
greenhouse

Being a lover of local, you have two favorite Cleveland restaurants at your disposal. You can create a super-food using only one menu item from each place. What are those two items & what is your super-food?
I am not sure what the superfood would be exactly but it for sure would include the *BUTTER* from the Greenhouse and the bread from Melt. That would make something magically delicious. If we could throw in the bacon from Lucky’s were in business.

Or a favorite one-man-only activity?
dirty_cake

Somehow, that looks delicious and dirty at once. Yummy. Read any good books lately?

And did you learn ANYTHING — even if that anything was something completely ridiculous?
Yes, I have learned he’s just not that into me. That doesn’t stop me from liking him of course. But I am trying (and that might have been part of the crazy that was mentioned before).

Yeahhhh, I think we all read that book. A book full of stating the obvious… or finding some new way for women to blame themselves for every reason a guy can be a douchebag… ahem, where was I? Tell me the most AWESOME aspect of being single. There are many. Choose one.
That for the most part I can dictate my social schedule. I don’t have to go to that wedding of his best friend from 2nd grade’s wedding or work functions with his boss who is a close talker and smells like he’s been eating horse poop.

What do you NOT like about being single? Yeah, there are several of those too. Pick one, please.
That I don’t have anyone that has to go with me to my best friend from 2nd grade’s wedding or events of that nature.

Do you write about your dating and relationship experiences? If you don’t write, do you have a favorite single person’s blog you enjoy? (Aside from mine, of course).
I don’t write about being single. I keep it to random stuff I find on the internet, design stuff, clothes, shoes and of course…
bacon_undies

It’s hard to concentrate. You know, with all that… bacon. So, on that note, what one thing in Cleveland reminds you of a penis?
My ex boyfriends…(rim shot). No seriously, the Terminal Tower reminds me of penis with some really large balls.

Have a favorite single-something story to share?
I think I may pass on this question…picking my favorite dating horror story is kind of like forcing me to pick a favorite child.

How do you intend to celebrate YOURSELF as part of National Singles Week?
I plan to hang out with my good friends and celebrate the relationships I am
in.
