Our weekend consisted of a lot of BEER.
AB’s parents came into town for the weekend. It was fun to play host and show them our “new” city… especially now that we know our way fairly well around Pittsburgh.
Friday, we celebrated my (belated) birthday dinner at Eleven. As always, the meal was AMAZING (plus my entree was free, courtesy of their awesome birthday meal program… but I made up for it in appetizers and alcohol). Plus, I finally ordered dessert: a strawberry-rhubarb ice cream sandwich, which was BY FAR my favorite dessert of all time. ALL.
It was presented as such:

Happy Birthday (from ELEVEN)
I love this restaurant.
Afterward, we walked over to the Big Top for Cirque de Soleil’s show in the Strip District. Totem was my FIRST Cirque show, and I was mesmerized/blown away/mouth-gaping excited about the entire performance. I like the traveling “circus” idea, especially that I have zero intentions of going back to Vegas (where I would definitely see one again) any time soon.
Saturday, was our “beer around town” adventure (after we took them to Square Cafe for brunch, where I eyeballed from afar some of the wonderful yard sales in Regent Square ‘hood for a landscape-oriented vintage print for our now-empty wall in our “dining area”). We started off with a drink at D’s (sadly, no room for dogz), then headed off to East End for a growler fill (mmmm, more Pedal Pale Ale). We made a quick pit stop at the Pittsburgh Public Market for marshmallows, chocolate-covered cranberries and rainbow Rice Krispies treats (you know, SUBSTANCE), and then we were on our way…
More beers were consumed at Church Brew — it was feeling like a sampler kind of day, since I haven’t yet tried ALL of their beers… and whomever thought black licorice was a good flavor for beer needs to die a slow death in one of those brewing vats. Ew.
The last “driving” portion of our tour (AB was graciously the DD up to this point) was Penn Brew, where I split another sampler of beers. After a quick change of transportation, we cabbed it over to the South Side for beers at Fathead’s and Piper’s Pub, and then had dinner at Yo Rita! (still another one of my fave places to eat in town).
The night ended over a couple games of Clue. At which I suck… almost as hard as Monopoly.
