August started out with a bang, where with Krusty’s Summer Sauce Camp on Saturday and the Warehouse District Street Festival on Sunday. -
I haven’t been to Krusty’s in a couple years, and it certainly did not disappoint. I ran into old acquaintances who I haven’t seen in ages and made a handful of new friends and babysat a dog named “Bob” (so cute) and ran into bloggers and somehow vodka ended up in my Krusty’s cup and I had WAY too many tickets leftover from an all-you-can-drink afternoon party. Awesomely, with the hot weather and lack of piss breaks, I had a serious bout of Stupid Drunk.
Well, then, why not a few more drinks to polish off the evening on the patio at Garage Bar.
See that: Stupid Drunk.
I certainly did not feel my best upon waking up early Sunday for a Baby Shower for one of my oldest and dearest friends. But after pizza for breakfast (shower’s fault, not mine!) and an unspiked punch and a plate full of cheeses and fruits, I was apparently ready to go destroy what was left of my liver.
Enter: Malibu Barbie (some kind of fruity Malibu-rum drink) on West 6th and $2 draft Christmas Ales on the Blind Pig patio. Oooh, you missed out on another beautiful outdoor day on the NEO.
Not to be outdone by, pfft, a “barbie” drink, I fell silent to the cucumber margarita and goat cheese guacamole at Momocho. I still cannot believe it took me so long to make a date at this awesome Fulton restaurant! Strange, since I hadn’t been there SINCE it was the Fulton Bar & Grill many, MANY moons over Cleveland ago.
For dinner, the four of us shared servings of the duck (pato) and wild boar (chancho) taquitos, and the kobe beef “meatballs” (albondigas). While I was completely fascinated by the taste of the boar, the duck was out of this world good. I need to return soon with less intoxication.
Writing: Finally have a completed post up over at ATV for The Airborne Toxic Event show on Tuesday. Yeah, yeah, a bit half-assed on the setlist, but such a “Mel” post.
Eating: Have you tried any of the dessert pastas from Ohio City Pasta? We made the cinnamon last night, served with a side of vanilla ice cream. Interesting texture at first taste, but DELISH! And I’m telling you, if I was not allergic to shellfish, I would devour their squid ink pasta.
Craving: more goat cheese guacamole. Avocados are my new vice. Good vice though, right?
Running: Day #2 this morning. Woke up a little later — around 6, instead of 5am. There was a lot more traffic, which stopped me on a couple intersections. I made it an entire 15 minutes at a slower pace before my legs gave out, and I needed a rest. A definite improvement from my first run a couple days ago.
To Do-ing: Dinner tonight with new friends… and “Dante” (heh), Blues & Brews on Saturday at Stan Hywet and Bridgestone/Firestone/NEC/whatever on Sunday.

Oh man, I was on an avocado binge for a good month. They are just so delicious. You should try a shake, avocado, milk and a little or lot of sugar. It’s so refreshing.

I just emailed myself one of those avocado/milk recipes — buying stuff tonight at Nature’s Bin. Sounds tasty to me! I’m also going to try using more avocado (as a spread) instead of mayo (even though it’s low fat mayo). I have a delicious white bean and avocado wrap recipe that I’m dying to try!
