Christmas was completely different this year. Infact, it was pretty lonely. I love being out in Arizona and being able to spend the holidays with my sister and her husband, but missed all the things I normally bitch about every year. I held on to my Xmas tradition of going to the movies. I understand that this is a huge opening every year. In Cleveland, no one seemed to be interested in such things on a holiday. So, here in Phoenix, EVERYONE had the same idea. Believe it or not, there was a freeze warning here this weekend, so don’t believe everything you hear about the weather… unless it’s August. Most movies were actually SOLD OUT (in Ohio, there would be like 4 people in the theaters) and the lines just to buy your ticket were about 20 minute wait. I was finally able to see Closer though. I can understand why this movie has been nominated for a few Golden Globes. This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while. Very real. Another downside, it takes you 40 minutes to drive a couple miles. But ah, the weather has been sunny and blue throughout the day since I got here. I can understand why people freak out when it rains; when you’re used to the skies looking the same EVERY day you wake up.
We had our family Christmas on Christmas Eve. My Pitt Sister and I went out for midnight mass. (What an experience THAT was!) I felt as if I were in a southern baptist church, and if I closed my eyes you could imagine Nick & Jessica’s Christmas special on stage. I can honestly say I’ve never seen a band in a Catholic Church. I’m a sucker for old traditions, especially those of the church. And why is everyone COUGHING here? Is this the cold/flu season? (Been under-the-weather myself with a sore throat and runny nose). We had a ham/turkey dinner (complete with a bottle of Jack from my brother-in-law).
Monday symbolizes me getting my ass in gear. Now that part one of the holidays is over, I have to kick start my job search and begin contacting potential employers I researched before moving here. Can’t go too much longer without a paycheck.
In other news, in the great spirit of the holidays, my dear reader Brian left $100 in my moving fund. Thanks, sweetheart. I hope you know how much that was appreciated. Brian, there’s a palm tree penis here for you… (*eg*)
Totalled up all costs for the drive out west. So, including all gas, windshield washer problems, souveniers, food, and 2 nights of hotels, the total cost was $355.35. Not so bad, and I still have money on the gas card to show for it.
