The great Cleveland Yogini gave me some shit about my lame single questions. I knew I could count on somebody giving it to me straight. While I made an attempt to redeem myself with newer, more perverted questions, she graciously answered my boring questions before she left town. C, who blogs anonymously, says she loves me regardless, and hopes that there is a single person out there willing to answer the (*cough*) harder ones to which she couldn’t respond. I truly wish I had her attention to answer some follow-ups.
Are you in? Email me: melinda at pursuitofyourboyfriend dot com. There is plenty National Singles Week left.
What’s your demographic? That’s a really polite way of asking your age… brackets are acceptable.
32
In what city do you live?
Ohio City
What’s the single life like in Ohio City?
eh, it’s the typical cleveland scene… i go out with my friends and you go out with your friends… and we will be in the same place but meaningful interaction of the 2 becomes a rare, exciting instance, not the norm.
(ed–strangely, her email included a map link with several locations across the city that only showed on my iPhone. I could not access through email and/or cut-and-paste. STRANGE!)
Backtrack for a second. How do you DEFINE “single” (or being single)? What are your perceptions on the gray area between being only either single or married? And have you always been classified as “single”?
i see very little gray on this continuum. we make it so complicated but it’s really quite simple… single for me = not in a mutually-committed relationship… i’ve had several committed relationships in my life; ’tis my only preference, actually. sum of the whole has to greater than the parts though & until i find that, i keep seeking. i trust he’s out there.
Have a favorite happy hour spot for single persons just like you?
i’d like a date to the Cleveland Orchestra’s happy hour friday of Double Beethoven on October 9th! luck be a lady…
I wish I didn’t already have dinner plans. I make a great Happy Hour date! I’ll play matchmaker for you, if any of my readers are interested… Is there an activity you enjoy alone?
watching the ebb & flow of those Lake Erie waves from any of several great vantage points
Do tell me about the Cleveland sunsets.
i LOOOOVE sunset (and sunrise.) i once heard that the great lakes have some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. dont you agree? i try to watch at least one a week in the summer from edgewater or similar. and every year, as i start to mourn summer’s passing, i am pleasantly surprised that they get even better in the fall! don’t believe me? stop at edgewater around 7ish nowadays and check out those beautiful pinks & blues. breathtaking! i’ve always treasured sunrise & sunset… they remind me not to take it all so seriously, that this too shall pass. sunrise gives me hope, a brand day free of yesterday’s junk… sunset is a reminder that all the junk passes & wipes the slate clean for another day.
It’s Friday, the 13th. You’re forced to stay in an abandoned building for one weekend… alone. Which one? Does that place hold any historical or personal significance?
love this question. my profession is urban redevelopment so picking just one building is hard… how ’bout 2? i’d have to say the Leff Electric Building near East 40th as my vacant pick. if i had to be there alone, i’d camp out on the roof watching the sky, the water, and the amazing sunsets (see previous question
out over the lake… but of course all this would be much more fun with the right company!
not totally vacant: i’d hang at Tyler Village on Superior or Gospel Press in Tremont (oh wait, now i’m up to 3!) if the welder caretaker at Gospel Press is no longer around. i love the vibe at Tyler, i’ve been to some very cool music/art/parties there… and I’m fascinated that someone is finally re-doing Gospel Press! i mean, it’s only been tried like 6 or 7 times to no avail. i thought it was cursed but the new developer is proving me wrong; the work they are doing looks amazing. cant wait to see inside. viva cleveland!
Admit it, you’ve picked up a non-fiction book or two about relationships. Or read an online article advising you of some unknown new “trick” for your future dating success. Or became interested in a particular study of statistical evidence of a certain awesome single place on Earf. Which one? And did you learn ANYTHING — even if that anything was something completely ridiculous?
i’d have to go with a lesson i learned from Don Miguel Ruiz’s The Four Agreements, though it’s not a very saucy book… my paraphrase: do NOT take their sh*t personally… it has nothing to do with you.
Tell me the most AWESOME aspect of being single. There are many. Choose one.
i can be as successful, strong, sexy, feminine, gorgeous, demure, silly, and emotional as i like all while staying skinny… and no one steals the covers.
What do you NOT like about being single? Yeah, there are several of those too. Pick one, please.
mustering the motivation to rally friends or go solo to any of the many great happenin’s in our fine town.
Do you write about your dating and relationship experiences? If you don’t write, do you have a favorite single person’s blog you enjoy? (Aside from mine, of course).
it’s more my lessons than experiences that pop up on my blog from time to time. besides you, i love Erin Bradley, nerve.com advice columinst
I love her too! (Readers, great & honest sex/relationship advice). Do you have your own favorite single-something story to share?
my ultimate fairy tale is a true-life romance with someone who believes as deeply as i in trust, commitment, fun, hotness, and sky’s-the-limit mutual support!
How pissed are you that I no longer write about “being single”?
pissed? how presumptuous of you! i love it! and i double love that you moved downtown together!!! keepin’ the city alive!
How do you intend to celebrate YOURSELF as part of National Singles Week?
at least one shamefully decadent date with myself
And that date was…
i grabbed a friend & went to columbus spur of the moment to see michael franti for the best concert of my entire life!!! i danced all night long with some amazingly spirited ohio state boys. i stayed in a huge free ‘heavenly’ suite at an amazing downtown hotel, followed by glorious brunch. (yes, i meant it when i said decadent.)
if you dont know michael, check him out. he is giant shiny love personified.
