Freelance Goal #1

logo

A leap of faith, in its most commonly used meaning, is the act of believing in something without, or in spite of, available empirical evidence. (from Wikipedia)

While the profound philosophies of Soren Kirkegaard based the “leap to faith” in religion, there comes a point in life where I believe one needs to re-evaluate not only faith, but his or her own life. With a majority of wannabe-writers, I struggled fabulously with desk jobs, industry layoffs and daytime fantasies of working from home. I intend to leap into the realm of freelancing — at least part-time — by January 2009. Call it a resolution or what you wish. I believe it to be a call for sanity for my soul.

I have small goals set -up in the meantime: updating clips, websites, resumes, fee schedules, etc. I am certain to make mistakes, feel hopelessly uncreative… cuss too much. But my hope is that creating this blog to journal my progress will further fuel my desire to be a writer on a full-time basis.

I know that I was always meant to be a writer. The words and phrases and stories come unnaturally easy. I recall sitting (bored) in my journalism classes, thinking a monkey could write in an inverted pyramid style. I realized (in a somewhat cocky fashion), that the writing process does not develop as easily for others. While I wasted no more than 20 minutes of my professor’s time creating four-paragraph news stories, others were toiling away horribly for the entire stretch of the two-hour night class.

There are so many ideas in my head, and I am tired of my talent going to waste.
