Cleveland and life is awesome

OK, now that I’m over feeling depressed over my current state of personal real estate, we can move on to more important things, like alcohol.

Before and after last Friday’s NIN concert, I paid my respects in bar tabs at Boneyard, Flannery’s pre-show. If I may mention living arrangements again, the Gateway District is still one of my top scouting locations for a new apartment. After the NIN show, we walked over to Mercury Lounge (where I twittered people to “help me!” Apparently I wasn’t having as good as a time as I imagined), then over to Harbor Inn. At some point, I think I was attempting to figure out where exactly Matinee on 25th was… even though I knew exactly where it is. Good thing I didn’t head over there, as it seems my fellow blogger counterparts were MIA as well.

Wait? Am I doing a weekend wrap-up on Thursday? WTF is the matter with me? Anyway…

For majority of my Saturday I was a lazy slug. Then around 8, I got all stir crazy with my upstairs neighbor again. There was not a chance of me relaxing in silence, so I decided to play up the “third wheel” and head out to meet my friend and her new man at 87 West 2 at Crocker Park. This place is totally cute! I definitely would like to go back for a wine tasting night. My first drink was a root beer float. And yes, it was alcoholic. Infact, Three Olives makes a root beer-flavored vodka now. Be still my ever-alcoholic heart!. It was mixed with some other types of liquor and a vanilla gelato. Just awesomeness in a glass. My second drink was the Summer Shandy — which was Blue Moon with orange vodka (the menu version was pomegranate, but I’m not a huge fan, so the waiter suggested it). By the time I got to my third drink that I did not want to order (being the great friend I am), I ordered a Purple Willy. It was not purple. I loved hearing the drunken story behind its creation too. I told the waiter I knew exactly what a “purple willy” was… he got a little embarrassed. The white cheddar cheese and salami plate I ordered was just… meh. Nothing I will pay $11 on again, that’s for sure.

Thankfully, I was in bed at a decent enough hour to wake up for Walk+Roll Cleveland on Sunday. My volunteer shift started at 10 a.m. I parked downtown around Prospect/E.14th, so I could get a little ride in before my shift. I realized later on that this was absolutely ridiculous because all I did was ride my bike for three hours. I also never realized how long a stretch of road MLK is from Wade Oval to Gordon Park. For good effort, when I checked on the other volunteers at their respective locations, I had to bike up the hills from MLK to East Blvd. I think I finally figured out my gear shifting! Also, some random guy on a bike rolled past me and told me that my seat was too low. After realizing he wasn’t just trying to check out my ass, I pulled over and lifted my seat. THIS MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN MY LEGS! Again, being new to bike riding, I suppose these are things you just pick up as you go along.

When my shift was over, I biked up to the Hungarian Gardens for the re-dedication ceremony. Awesome, there was Hungarian music and dancing and… apricot cookies. Again, food involved? It doesn’t take much for me. The clouds started to roll in about 2, and I realized how far away my bike was, so I decided to take off back into downtown. I really wanted to stick around for the Italian Opera too.

I have never pedaled so fast in my life (and once in the wrong direction, wtf? I am from Cleveland, right?). I took Chester into about the CSU campus location, then cut over through the Playhouse area, back to my car on Prospect. I haven’t mapped it yet, but I’m sure I biked as much as last weekend, if not more. But my legs were so much more useful. All in the back seat height? Who woulda thunk it?

And just as I was placing my bike into the rack and relaxing in my driver’s seat? It started to downpour. Seriously? Couldn’t have planned that better if I tried.

This weekend, if time permits, I might bring the bike down camping. Although I wish I would be in town for this:

SEVEN MARY THREE & SPONGE AUG 30TH

Seven Mary Three and Sponge will be at the ROC BAR this Sat Aug 30th…Where’s the ROC BAR?…On the East bank of the flats! Yes there really is a bar open on the east bank…just south of the demolition zone! It has a patio on the river, alcohol and a lot of rock music.

Tickets for Seven Mary Three/Sponge are just $15 presale. To get your tickets call 877-725-8849 or stop by the ROC BAR…it really is there…

Ah, my weekend is going to be so much more awesome.

I think I’ll be out at Roc Bar for that show - the show is happening outside in the parking lot next door to Roc Bar, and having seen both Seven Mary Three and Sponge, I’d highly recommend it to anyone that is a fan - they both put on a great show, particularly Sponge!

An root-beer float. With gelato. Hmmm, imagine that… what a great idea…

Paulius, I guess I never had VTR’s version!

BTW, your new drink menu is fantastic. I love the Apricot Sour.

In high school I saw Seven Mary Three with Poe, I think it was at the Old Peabody’s but i can’t remember it might have been the Odeon.
