Move on… Urick Sister #1 coming through!

I’m a little sad today. I’ve already felt considerably distant from my sisters, in both miles and that whole “life” stuff getting in the way of visits and lengthy phone calls. Urick Sister #2 that taught for the past year in the Dominican Republic is now moving to Phoenix to be with Sister #3 that already resides there. She only recently returned to the States since the end of the...

On living alone

Finally, last night I was able to dig into some of my new magazine subscriptions (last issue for Glamour, sorry publisher, but you just don’t mesh well with me anymore) before “Swingtown” began. Inside my Marie Claire was the holy-hell funniest thing I have ever read (well, besides David Sedaris, of course): Learning to Live Alone. The article was part of the monthly “Survival...

The ideal husband — does he exist?

Thanks to Modern Girl for her posting of this column in the New York Times. A few passages of advice from the 79-year-old Catholic priest that stuck out for me: A therapist friend insists that ‘more marriages are killed by silence than by violence.’ The strong, silent type can be charming but ultimately destructive. That world-class misogynist, Paul of Tarsus, got it right when he said, ‘In all your...

Heroes are important. Women, especially.

I have a new hero in Dara Torres. If you’re unfamiliar with Olympic swimming, she just set the American record time for the 50-meter freestyle — and she’s 41-years-old! Not to mention, she took “time off” to have a child AND has one of the most incredible 40-year-old female bodies I have ever seen. Seriously. I ended up in some crazy isomniatic world last night watching news...

My fridge, my personality.

Alexa from Cleveland’s a Plum has a guest writing entry over at Stylish Handwriting about what is on a blogger’s refridgerator. Here’s the freezer door: (and say hello to Poncho!) Let’s start from the sunflower magnet (sent from my friend Lori who knows I love sunflowers). That magnet is holding up my list of 43 Cleveland+ as I search for things to do, as to not succumb to boredom....

Skin Cancer Takes Friends. I don’t want it to!

Unfortunately, I did lose a friend and co-worker to skin cancer a few years ago. Within six months of being diagnosed, she was dead — in her young 20s too. It is pitiful it took me this long to realize I NEEDED to have a skin screening (hello, former tanorexic), especially having so many freckles and “beauty marks.” A few people in blogs have written about the Skin Cancer Takes Friends...

Who gives free stress tests?

This has been a seriously awful set of four weeks filled with stressful situations. In the grand scheme of “life,” I suppose if I self-prophesied enough, it could be worse, right? I’m trying my best to be strong and resilient, but seriously… why am I being so tested? I had another birthday. Yeah, 31! My favorite “cool” aunt from when I was younger passed away suddenly....

Inspiration for Your Day!

It has been far too long since I have motivated you, dear Internets. Here are a few things that are helping me get through learning CSS, WordPress, FTP-ing and what-the-hell-is-Twitter?: Esteban is trying to recharge the “Good Guys” with: ANYTHING remixed by Kleerup,  ”I Kissed a Girl” by Katy Perry, “I Love to Move in Here (Crookers Bass in Here Mix)” by Moby,...

Bathroom Break

Sometimes saying the wrong thing is better than saying nothing at all. (Certainly making me laugh is better than me feeling ignored). And sometimes the action of a small hug means something bigger than you can ever imagine. I tolerated the thought process for this post while en route to the woman's restroom (and scratched notes with my nail on a sheet of toilet paper), while enduring a day-long fit of...

They only want you when you’re 17; when you’re 21 31, you’re no fun.

I have gone and turned 31. It's not really a bad age; 30 was an amazing year for me. A lot of what I set out to do this year, I have accomplished, and I feel at peace with my successes. I am content that the motivation I felt will not diminish after this new number is added after that 3. Unfortunately for everyone around me, I hate what I'm doing, not the work so much as the accountability and...

A few thoughts on humanity… and my mother.

If there was a ever a question as to the reason we are the "fattest city in America," then you need to click here: NewsNet5 Live Video at Papa John's UPDATE: OK, fans are waiting FIVE HOURS in line for a 23-cent pizza. Seems to me that time is much more valuable than saving a mere TEN DOLLARS on a freaking pizza. Seriously, do you people have JOBS? UPDATE: it is ten o'clock pm. There are...

Bad day for Taurus…

My horoscope today: Today’s Taurus Horoscope: Mar 10, 2008 Things are suddenly coming to a difficult stalemate regarding the love and romance in your life, dear Taurus. Perhaps you felt like everything was going fine and that you had nothing to worry about. In reality, this notion of "everything going fine" was just your self-denial hard at work, making you think that you could continue on...

You’re Welcome…

Here I am, rock me like a hurricane. I was bored with my hair again (surprised?). Lookie what I went and did:.    Esteban is on a hitting streak with: "La Degustation" by The Lovers, "Put Us Back Together Right" by Headlights and "Seeds of Night" by The Cave Singers. Oh, and Mr. Jim Eastman, thank you eternally for the "Sandwiches" song on your page. ...

Albert Einstein

Received this online: Albert Einstein was an amazing physicist. He figured out so many universal principles and equations that he was way ahead of his fellow scientists at any point of time. But he is also remembered for another thing; a quality which made people call him a genius: his words. Here are 10 things out of the numerously wonderful things he had said; 10 golden lessons that you can put to use in...

Love is Dead

Those were the words posted on the overpass bridge above 490-W en route to a Red Robin burger-thon: Love is dead. Completely expecting a political mass of annoyances (remember the TELEP incident?), I have to review in my rearview driving past in the opposite direction. What was the intended meaning of creating such a banner for motorists to screech and contemplate as they completed the last leg of their...

Things I accomplished today:

1. Scheduled all my summer classes at CSU (16 credit hours WOOT!) 2. Scheduled my July trip to go White Water Rafting/Camping and sent my deposit 3. … and looked at flights for a July weekend to Atlanta. 4. Decided since my “mental health” day last week, I’d add a Saturday morning to my work-week 5. Cleaned my desk /did my expense report / changed my work schedule 6. Confirmed Tribe...

Can’t date a girl that gets drunker than me!

Had a mildly low-key Friday night. I cancelled my date, but for my one-and-only Mr. Big Pants. He tore his ACL and being that I only have partial-visitation-rights custody, drove out to present him with some cookies (he loves the doggie-friendly fake-choco flavored ones!) and a stuffed corn-on-the-cob (it squeeks!). We should find out next week if he needs surgery to repair. So, I got to hang with the dog...
