Now that I work for myself, I have to lug around my laptop and accessories to meetings and even when I’m on the road… because, well, when you work for yourself, you’re kind of always working. Am I right?
And, unfortunately, you can only do so much with a mobile phone.
I recently invested in a carryall that has zippered pouches and internal organization of all my business supplies (and of course, my notebook), but I still needed a few requisite laptop accessories. Especially that my charger consistently pops off one of the prongs on its “male side.” Yeah, I need to start packing pliers in the chance that the prong broke off into the outlet. Again.
Why is it that after online browsing, you realize the necessity for like 80% of the items for sale? My office obsession has nearly peaked that of my shoe closet. Maybe we WILL need that second bedroom after all.
First off, the combination of height of my desk and chair in my office set-up has promoted bruising to the underside of my forearms. No, it’s not from roller derby, but I might be better off wearing my wrist guards after working a couple hours. I need one of these arm rests for the edge of the desk.
I think I could use a stand when working from my couch or armchair. Or, in bed, if I’m so inclined. Bonus points if it holds a cup of coffee and shoots lasers any time the cat is near me.
I don’t think I need a lap cooling fan, since my place is always so freaking chilly, and I reuse that heated energy. Hey, look, I’m GREEN! But I can definitely see the appeal — have you noticed how hot the bottoms of those things get, ESPECIALLY when sitting on top of the desk with no room to breathe?
I’m practically my own mobile office now when I travel. My next purchase this summer will be a couple extra laptop batteries. When you work from coffee shops or libraries or public spaces, there is limited sockets to plug into if at all available for public use. And I kind of like working from outside.
And, err, you know, the breaking-charger-plug thing previously mentioned makes me look like a giant doofus.
If you work remotely or from home, what office or computer accessories have made a difference in productivity or saving time… and well, an ROI on good posture?
