And Friday, I’m in love with this city.

I think waking up in the middle of the night, pushing myself out of bed while pulling my shoulder out of its socket made my current roller derby decision for me. My shoulder is officially effed up (or “edged” as my WordPress app wants me to auto-correct).

Moving on…

This city loves its Friday Happy Hour as much as its fireworks. And you won’t hear me complain (unless it comes to any discussion of my shoulder).

Sharp Edge, being so incredibly close to the apartment, is where HH happens in all its uber-drunken convenience. I made a new (old) friend — someone previously introduced to me by AB in Cleveland, who has been living here in Pittsburgh for about six months. It’s good to be friends with someone new sometimes, as you can explore things together with fresh eyes.

Like the Gallery Crawl, for instance. From what I understand, every three-four months (on the first Friday), the various galleries on Penn and Liberty avenues welcome the evening crowd with special exhibits, meet-and-greets with artists and similar “artsy” events. All of this, in coordination with the Festival of Lights. Thankfully, I reside far enough away from the waterfall and its chirping birds.

I was particularly interested in seeing Eat Me! at Future Tenant, especially after word of its food-inspired fashion show for Pittsburgh Fashion Week.

We also checked out TXT (I’m not certain the name of the gallery, or if that it technically part of 707/709):

and in its neighboring gallery — an exhibit of glass (like an asshole, I didn’t get the artist’s name):

Art made of food — and naked women decorated with painted apples on display — made us hungry, so we shared a six-course tapas-style dinner at Bossa Nova. Of note: the spicy tuna tartar was awesome… and definitely a SPICY dish.

After dinner, we walked the block to see more of the lighting installations (we’ll forgive — and ignore — the onslaught of religious relics on display):

We finished our Friday with a dance performance — and a little Atari game action — at Attack Theatre.

Did you head downtown for Festival of Lights or the gallery crawl? What was your favorite exhibit and/or projection?
