A Jolly Holiday

This was the best fucking weekend ever!

Didn’t think you’d hear that phrase when speaking of Cincinnati? The drive time took about 3 1/2 hours from work Friday (leaving a wee bit early for the holiday, of course). I can’t remember jumping out of the car so quickly — not only for bathroom pleasures — but to pass out some good hugs. It was a perfect mixture of laziness, craziness and drunkenness (and some nicotine-ness) — as all vacations should be.

SSD and I fed the bellies at The Polo Grille and I enjoyed a Chicken and Chorizo Penne with a Harp Lager. Yes, beer and pasta for me. We caught up over a few more liquid libations in another local restaurant/bar a few doors down (wish I could remember the name).

Hit the IHOP for breakfast somewhere around 2 in the afternoon and shoveled in an 8-eggish-ham-n-cheese omelette (with a side of pancakes). Yes, I can eat. Just took the day slow and relaxed with a baseball game and some movies on TV while we contemplated plans for the night. For dinner, we chose The Cheesecake Factory. Both of us chose the hugest salads on the planet. Geesh, they give you a shitload of food here. My side dish was a couple Jameson-and-sodas. Declined from their cheesecake selection to partake in more alcoholic adventures.

We arrived in the city to the Mount Adams neighborhood. Mount Adams reminds me a cross between Little Italy and a swanky Philadelphia hood.

Spent the remaining bar hours at The Pavillion. Although a tight squeeze and really fucking hot when you first enter, the entire back of the bar — three stories — is all outdoor patio overlooking the city… and nicely covered at top to protect from all the rain that night or assholes that might spit from the upper levels. First floor was all your typical top radio hits that you’d find at 96.5 with extreme drink-waiting time. Second floor was all my techno/club shit. Third — didn’t make it to the third floor, but it was loaded with people. Watched some guy fall through a door and almost down the steps. Now, this is the neighborhood you don’t want to have a trip-and-drunken fall! The entire hillside sidewalk is brick — steep brick. I could envision 6-inch heels not being too friendly. Good thing mine were only 4.5 and I didn’t get that wasted… until I got home, that is.

Again, slept in until around 2 on Sunday. Had my easter dinner at TGIFriday’s since my family was all scattered over the country. Easter Sunday was perfect for Hangover Hamburgers. Seriously, whoever thought of adding fried jalapenos to a burger is a genius in my book. I think the waiter knew our morning-slash-afternoon condition as soon as I ordered a coffee as if it were a rare antibody. Played 20 Questions first-date-style with the conversation starters on the back of the sugar packets.

It was a chain-restaurant winning weekend! It’s too bad the Reds weren’t in town this weekend because the weather was sooo beautiful. But of course, went back and watched the game on TV.

Had perfect driving weather both directions, forgiving some brief showers around Columbus, this weekend and made the ride home in about the same time.

So, why was this the best fucking week ever? It was all the company.

Definitely returning soon…

This little vacation-whore is tired.
