43 Cleveland+ things for 2008, Clevie

Posted by Mel on February 11th, 2008. Filed under: Say hello to my Little Friends.

Christine gave the challenge. Here’s my list:

1. Explore underground, old subway tunnel.
2. Visit an abandoned building/warehouse with Great Lakes Urban Exploration or an old amusement park location (Chippewa Lake??)
3. Row in Lake Erie and/or any water canal.
4. Explore the waterfront on bike (how about “buy a bike”).
5. Have dinner at Little Budapest.
6. Eat at Balaton.
7. Buy church pierogies and freeze them for cold weather day pleasantries.
8. See a foreign movie at the Cinemateque.
9. Smell the orchids at Cleveland Botanical Gardens.
10. Have breakfast at West Side Market.
11. Do a beer flight at Great Lakes Brewing Company. And Bier Markt. YEAH!
12. Drink, drink, drink at the Vintage Ohio Festival in August (Lake County). *note: I was invited to a wedding the weekend of this festival, so I went to Ferrante’s in Harpersfield instead to show my love to Ohio wineries.
13. Spend a rainy weekender wandering through The Cleveland Shop… or finding a kitschy lamp at the Flower Shop.
14. Spend a sunny Sunday exploring yard/garage sales in Lakewood (find my iron bed!). *sigh* Still no iron bed…
15. Take a walk through the historical homes district on Fairmount Blvd. Gawk endlessly.
16. Ride the Chalets at the Strongsville MetroParks .
17. Volunteer at the Cleveland Film Festival.
18. Find a consistent local dive on the east side — where everybody knows my name .
19. Rollerblade up/down/around MLK.
20. Buy some sort of ticket package for The Cleveland Orchestra’s next season.
21. Have my picture taken in front of the free stamp.
21. See an awesome exhibit at the Rock Hall.
22. Watch the Indians take the pennant (C’mon!) *sigh*
23. Wow, Glidden House just updated several awesome package specials! Hello, FILM BUFF!
24. My little further from Cleveland idea: Visit the birthplace of my favorite deli cheese
25. Lake View Cemetery tour during Halloween!
26. Explore Collinwood!
27. Eat at Big Al’s in Larchmont (again, I miss thee pancakes!)
28. Get back into the Cleveland Music Scene (including a nostalgic visit to The Euc!)
29. Visit the Hungarian Heritage Museum — ooh, the “Saints and Sinners” lecture sounds awesome!
30. Go West! I really want to go to Kalahari after watching Robin Swoboda’s recent visit on “That’s Life” — I want to stay in a cabana.
31. Swear off the Warehouse District (no, really)
32. Hands-On Pottery day
33. Join and participate within my alumni association at Lakeland
34. Find a way to bring outdoor ice skating back to downtown Cleveland for next winter!
35. Walk Cleveland! architecture tour.
36. Find a “sky party” during the summer (does LENSC have these?)
37. Watch the sun set on Lake Erie.
38. I would like my birthday dessert to be at Ken Stewart’s Lodge (or any place serving S’Mores for dinner).
39. Lolly the Trolley Tour — I haven’t rode Lolly since I was a younger — how very un-Cleveland of me.
40. Keeping consistent with all-things-making-me-hungry, eat at VegiTerranean in Akron.
41. I also do not remember the Historical Society, although I know I’ve been there. Give myself a kick in the hippocampus!
42. Camping (again) at Punderson State Park and maybe rent snowmobiles and run the trails.
43. Find someone to teach me the REAL way to make kolachki!
